The paper trail that began in my childhood

Newspapers have been part of my life since I was born and brought up in a village newsagents' and fish and chip shop.

We sold the papers to customers who then brought them back so we could wrap up their fish and chips! That's enterprise for you.

At 18, I talked the editor of a local newspaper group in Lincoln into giving me a job.

I ran my own edition, then moved to an evening newspaper where I did general news and features and ran a pop column called Poppin' Around with Trisha.

At 24, I moved to Radio Trent in Nottingham, as a reporter and then a producer with my own lunchtime chat
show.

My national newspaper career began in Manchester as a sub-editor on the Daily Express and Daily Star. I then moved to London and worked on the Daily Mirror, Today, News of the World and The People where I was Associate Editor, led a production department and even edited the paper.

I have also appeared on morning TV.

It was during my eight years at The People that I built up my travel contacts before returning to the News of the World as Travel Editor.

Although travel has been the main focus of my working life since, I have the experience to tackle any aspect of news or feature stories and add my expert opinion on live news stories.

With more than 30 years in national newspapers — many of them at an executive level — I know where to go and who to talk to about placing stories and products in the British Press.

My contact list in the travel industry is second-to-none and I am proud to have made so many friends who trust my skills and judgement. My last role on newspapers was Travel Editor of the News of the World, Britain's biggest selling newspaper. The travel section doubled in size during my time in charge and I helped bring in advertising for pullouts which I produced for the paper several times a year.

One of the great joys of my job has been to travel all over the world, experiencing spectacular sights and meeting local people. I have always encouraged everyone to appreciate different cultures and my articles reflect that.
